I'm pretty sure the majority of my basil plants died while I was away. My mother was supposed to be looking after them, and she tells me that they all wilted the day after I left. There's only one plant in the big pot. Surprisingly though, all of the plants in the little container made it! They all appear healthy and thriving. They're measurable at this point, so I'll start adding measurements to my blogs.

I leave for Mackinac island on Saturday. I'm going to take my little basil pot with me. Unless the big pot makes some miraculous recovery, I'm probably giving up on that one. Not sure how long they'll last. These plants seem very fussy.

Day 6

Soooo, I'm really dumb and literally forgot about my plants for the past two days. I was cleaning the kitchen or something, and I saw the pot and I was like, oh shoot, forgot about that. I went over there to take a picture of some dirt and discovered actual seedlings!! Oooooops.

I've been kind of mentally noting which plant is which. The plant farthest away from me in the big plant is Plant 1. Then, going clockwise, Plant 2 and then Plant 3. The little pot is Plant 4 because I don't expect anything to happen here.

Here's Plant 1:
So far there are three little buds. They are a weird light green color right now.

This is Plant 2:
It's currently just a little speck :)

Nothing from Plant 3, and nothing from Plant 4. The fact that I planted plants 1 and 2 later than Plant 4, yet they still sprouted first, leaves me with little hope for Plant 4. I think my mom was right, and I don't think the seeds in that pot are going to make it. I don't really understand why Plant 3 hasn't sprouted though. Maybe its because it's the furthest away from the "sun" in the big pot.

Day 3

Still nothing exciting. I also forgot to take pictures yesterday. Oops.

Day 2

My mom says that growing my babies in that tiny little pot is a bad idea. I said she was wrong. Then I proceeded to go into the basement, find an Ikea pot that's like five times bigger than my little one, and plant some more basil. Mostly out of pure fear that my plants won't grow.

I planted them in three little locations and put a toothpick by each of them so I don't have to guess about where they are this time.

No progress on the little pot.

Day 1

As stupid as this blog may seem, I need a good bio grade, and this is the only way I can think of to keep all of this in order. So whatever.

Day 1.
I went to five different stores to find the perfect flower pot and perfect plants. My criteria were as follows:

- flowerpot must be transportable
- plants must grow fast

I finally settled on some foreign basil plants from Asia or something like that. It says that they should be ready to harvest in 18 days or so. I saw that and I was sold. No flowers to worry about, just grow some leaves. Awesome.

On the package it says to plant them some twelve inches apart, but being that I have about 2 inches of space to work with, I kind of just ignored that part. I put some old soil in the little flower pot, and then poked some holes into the dirt with a fork so I could put some seeds in there. These seeds are tiny!! They remind me of little celery seeds that you use for cooking. They are also the exact same color as the dirt, so I'm scared if they even went into the dirt where they belong.

I watered them thoroughly because I figure they need the most water when they're babies and still developing. I loosely packed the soil down so they can get all cozy in their dirt, leaving about a fourth of an inch of soil over them. I have a UV light over them right now, so they can get constant "sun". It's pretty cloudy right now, so I figure that this is my best bet. My mom uses this light in the spring for her tomato seeds, so it should work for my basil.
